Palos Heights, Ill. - Sophomore centerfielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) continued his hot play in helping lead Saint Xavier University to a commanding 13-0 victory over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) baseball action Tuesday afternoon in Palos Heights, Ill. Clements finished with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI in the ballgame. The game was called in the sixth inning due to rain, but was ruled a win for SXU since at least five innings were played. The Cougars improve to 3-2 in the conference standings with the win and 20-15 overall this season.
In addition to Clements, sophomore rightfielder Tony Testin (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had three hits (all doubles) and two runs scored Tuesday, while sophomore second baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore left fielder Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) recorded a homer and three RBI and freshman catcher Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) notched a home run as well with two runs scored and two RBI. The Cougars had 15 hits in the ballgame and scored 11 of their 13 runs in the game's first three innings. Junior righthander Dan Miller (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) got the shutout victory on the mound pitching all five innings for SXU and allowing just three hits and no walks with six strikeouts. Miller improves to 4-2 on the season with the win.
Saint Xavier (20-15 overall/3-2 CCAC) heads to Westville, Ind., on Wednesday, April 9, to take on CCAC foe Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). The nine-inning game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
