CHICAGO - Junior righthander Rick Kehoe (Palos Heights, Ill./Richards) threw a three-hit, complete-game shutout Friday to help lead the Saint Xavier University baseball team to a 4-0 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars even up their conference record at 2-2 with the victory and improve to 17-13 overall on the season.
Kehoe was sensational on the mound striking out five Calumet batters and allowing no walks over nine innings of work. Saint Xavier scattered 10 hits in the ballgame with junior centerfielder Don Skelly (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) and sophomore shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) each leading the way with two hits apiece. O'Brien also finished with two runs scored for the Cougars, while sophomore designated hitter Mark Siefert (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and sophomore second baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) each tallied a RBI. SXU scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and then tacked a run apiece in both the third and the fifth innings to build its 4-0 lead.
Saint Xavier (17-13 overall/2-2 CCAC) hosts a four-game, non-conference series with Madonna University (Mich.) this weekend at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars will play a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and then play a second doubleheader Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
