Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior righthander James Williams (Steger, Ill./South Suburban CC/Bloom) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week late Tuesday for his stellar performance on the mound last Saturday against Hannibal-LaGrange College (Mo.). Williams (2-1) worked the first five innings of the Cougars' 3-0 shutout of Hannibal-LaGrange on March 22, facing the minimum 15 batters and striking out six. HLC broke up the perfect game one inning later off the first of two SXU relievers to close out the contest.
This was the first conference pitcher or player of the week award for the Cougar baseball team this season. SXU won both its weekend games in shutout fashion defeating William Penn University (Iowa), 1-0, in Saturday's first game.
