CHICAGO - Freshman shortstop Brittany Hannigan (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) went 5-for-6 at the plate with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and five RBI to lead Saint Xavier University to a doubleheader sweep of Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) softball action Tuesday at the SXU Softball Field in Chicago. The Cougars (6-10 overall/2-2 CCAC) won the first game in five innings, 10-0, and then went on to claim the second game in five innings as well, 12-1. Over both games, the SXU pitching staff allowed just nine hits and one unearned run to the Panthers.

There was no shortage of stellar offensive performances Tuesday for Saint Xavier. Senior catcher Aly Kelley (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsee Valley) finished 4-for-6 with a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI. Freshman rightfielder Rachel Krabbe (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, while freshman centerfielder Megan Paradzinski (Munster, Ind./Munster) had four hits, five runs scored, and two stolen bases for the Cougars.

Sophomore Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) recorded the win on the mound in game one throwing all five innings and giving up four hits and no runs or walks with six strikeouts. The victory gives Shearer a 4-4 record on the season. Senior Nicolle Bartels (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) was tough in the nightcap as well allowing five hits, a walk, and an unearned run over five innings of work with five strikeouts. Bartels improves to 2-1 overall this season with the win.

Saint Xavier (6-10 overall/2-2 CCAC) continues its conference slate on Friday, March 28, with a doubleheader on the road against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The twinbill starts at 3 p.m. in Whiting, Ind.
