CHICAGO - Junior guard Paris VonShae Davis (Maywood, Ill./St. Joseph) finished with 15 points to lead the No. 21 ranked and No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to a 73-47 home victory over No. 6 seed Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in the first round of the 2008 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (24-7 overall/7-3 CCAC) now advance to the semifinals and will face No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill.
Junior guard Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC) had a nice game as well for SXU finishing with 14 points and four rebounds, while junior guard Amir Resic (Prijedor, Bosnia/East-West/Mather) chipped in 12 points. Sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Saint Xavier with 10 points in addition to his four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Wes Klockowski (Tinley Park, Ill.) finished with a game-high 16 points for IIT, while sophomore guard Carlos Fernandez (Leon, Spain) finished with 11 points. The Cougars shot an impressive 56 percent (30-for-54) from the field in the game, including a 53 percent clip (9-for-17) from the three-point arc. SXU built a 30-15 advantage at the half and outscored the Scarlet Hawks, 43-32, in second-half action.
Saint Xavier (24-7 overall/7-3 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais on Thursday, March 6, to take on No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University in the CCAC semifinals. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
