Women's Basketball - Tue, Mar. 4, 2008
CHICAGO - For the fourth straight season, the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team has won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season title and will take the No. 1 seed into this week's CCAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 4. The Cougars were guaranteed at least a share of the title with their 60-50 win over Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.) Saturday, but a loss by Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) to Robert Morris College Saturday gave the Cougars sole possession of first place in the final conference standings.
"We are very excited to be in this position, because not only do we not have to share the title, but we also get the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament," said Saint Xavier University women's basketball coach Bob Hallberg. "One of our goals every year is to win the CCAC, because it gives us a lot of momentum heading into the postseason. I am proud of what this team has accomplished during the regular season and I hope it has prepared them for all the challenges that the postseason has to offer."
Saint Xavier (22-7 overall/8-2 CCAC) will take the No. 1 seed into this week's CCAC Tournament. The Cougars will receive a first-round bye for the tournament and host a game on Thursday, March 6. SXU will face the winner of tonight's Indiana University-South Bend/University of St. Francis (Ill.) game at 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center Thursday.
