CHICAGO - Despite team-highs of 18 points and five assists by senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) home game to rival University of St. Francis (Ill.), 75-64, Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (21-7 overall/7-2 CCAC) trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half and closed to within five points, 59-54, with just over five minutes to play in regulation. However, the Fighting Saints hit big shots down the stretch to pull off the double-digit victory.

Sophomore forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) finished with 14 points and team-best eight rebounds, while freshman point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) chipped in 13 points and three steals. Sophomore guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College), who was named the CCAC Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week earlier today, also scored in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore guard Katie Carls led all scorers with 20 points for St. Francis (Ill.), while junior guard Kristina Yedinak (13 points, 11 rebounds) and sophomore forward Kellie Fazio (13 points, 10 rebounds) each posted double-double performances in the winning effort. The Cougars had trouble rebounding the ball losing the battle of the boards, 43-32.

Saint Xavier (21-7 overall/7-2 CCAC) close out their CCAC schedule on Saturday, March 1, with a home game against Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start and the five seniors on the 2007-08 roster will be honored in a ceremony prior to the start of the game.
