Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College) literally stole Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Division I Player of the Week honors away from the rest of the field for the week ending February 24 with her five-steal, 18-point performance in a crucial league road win over Robert Morris College (Ill.), which was among others receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll. The 74-58 victory on Feb. 23 enabled the NAIA's No. 11 ranked Cougars (21-6 overall, 7-1 CCAC) to maintain their half-game lead over No. 18-ranked Olivet Nazarene University (22-5 overall, 7-2 CCAC) in the conference standings with one week remaining in the regular season.
Half of McClain's team-high point total came from beyond the three-point arc, where she connected on three of her four attempts. Overall, she was 7-of-14 from the field. McClain was also credited with three rebounds and an assist in the contest, the only game over the seven-day period for the Cougars. It is the first CCAC Player of the Week honor for McClain this season and the fifth for the team with senior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) and sophomore forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) each garnering two of the awards earlier in the year.
Saint Xavier (21-6 overall/7-1 CCAC) continues its CCAC schedule tonight (Feb. 26) with a home game against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.Click here to go to the CCAC Players of the Week page
