Romeoville, Ill. - Saint Xavier University notched its second NAIA national qualifier Friday night when sophomore John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) won the 800 meter run at the Dick Pond Open at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., in a qualifying time of 1:56.42. Neisler joins sophomore Chris Spencer (Frankfort, Ill./Eastern Illinois/Lincoln-Way East), who qualified last weekend in the 400 meter dash, as the two Cougar representatives for the 2008 NAIA Indoor Track Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., on March 6-8. Senior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) paced a second place finish in the 3000 meter run in a time of 8:57.99, just off the NAIA's qualifying mark in this event. Other solid Cougar finishes included freshman Evan Lowry (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) and sophomore Manny Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) in the mile run, with times of 4:34.9 and 4:42.8, respectively, as well as freshman Roy Witty (Mount Greenwood, Ill./Marist) in the 3000 meter run at 9:21.4. "I feel very satisfied with our performances in this meet," remarked SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "Everyone hit personal bests, so I feel that this provides positive motivation for our outdoor season. I'm extremely excited about the possibilities of both John and Chris at Nationals. They have both set themselves up to be quite successful."
