CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University men's track team ran at the Chicagoland Track Championships at the University of Chicago on Saturday, February 15. The Cougars finished ninth among the 15 squads competing, which included teams from all divisions of the NCAA and NAIA squads. Highlights for SXU included sophomore Chris Spencer (Frankfort, Ill./Eastern Illinois/Lincoln-Way East), who finished third overall in the 400 meter dash in a national qualifying time of 49.99 seconds. Sophomore John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) notched second place in the 800 meter run in 1:57.1, while senior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) took fourth in the 5000 meter run in 15:32.7. The Cougars complete their regular indoor season on Friday, February 22, with the Dick Pond Open at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. This is the last chance for the Cougars to qualify runners for the NAIA National Championships at Johnson City, Tenn., from March 5-8. Currently, Spencer is the lone Cougar to qualify. He has notched 49.99 on two occasions in the 400 meter dash. "We are looking forward to this Friday," stated Saint Xavier men's track coach Ed McAllister. "I believe that we will have a solid chance to add to our list of qualifiers."
