Women's Track & Field - Mon, Feb. 18, 2008
Romeoville, Ill. - In just its second season as a program, the Saint Xavier University women's indoor track team earned its first ever relay qualification for the NAIA Indoor Track National Championships with a time of 12:40.69 in the DMR (Distance Medley Relay) at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by Lewis University on Friday, February 15. Unlike most track relays, each member of the four-person DMR relay team runs a different distance. The Distance Medley Relay is made up of a 1200 meter leg, a 400 meter leg, an 800 meter leg, and a 1600 meter leg, respectively.

Sophomore Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), who ran the 1600-meter anchor leg, was joined by freshmen Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River), Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard), and Kelly Malone (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley). The group shattered their previous season-best time in the DMR of 13:00.11 in Friday's meet earning an automatic qualifying time by NAIA standards (12:45.48). The 2008 NAIA Indoor Track National Championships will take place at the Memorial Center in Johnson City, Tenn., beginning March 6. The prelimaries for the women's DMR will take place at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, with the finals set for Saturday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m.

"This relay was thrilling to watch, because each runner had her best performance of the season," said SXU women's indoor track coach Lisa Ebel. "I knew that as a relay team this group had the potential to qualify for the national meet, but to have them all shine on the same day showed just how strong they can be. I am really looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish against the strong competition at nationals."
