CHICAGO - Led by a game-high 15 points by sophomore guard Marco Samimy (Chicago, Ill./CICS-Northtown Academy), the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in defeating Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 84-50, Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (21-6/5-2 CCAC) started the game's first six minutes with a 23-1 scoring run and built a 48-19 advantage at the halftime break.

Sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) had another impressive all-around performance Saturday finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in the winning effort. Junior guard Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC) also played well recording 14 points and eight rebounds, while senior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) chipped in nine points and team-high 10 rebounds off the bench. SXU out-rebounded the Scarlet Hawks, 42-30, and the defense helped to force 26 IIT turnovers in the game. The Cougars scored 35 of its 84 points off Scarlet Hawk miscues.

Saint Xavier (21-6 overall/5-2 CCAC) returns to action on Saturday, February 23, with a big conference road game against CCAC rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start in Joliet, Ill.
