Women's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 13, 2008
CHICAGO - With its 82-52 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Tuesday night, the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team continued an impressive streak. The win was No. 20 for the season (20-5 overall), which marks the eighth straight year that the Cougars have achieved at least 20 wins in a single season since the program began in 2000. With SXU typically playing just over thirty games per season, this streak helps illustrate just how quickly the program has ascended into a perennial national contender at the NAIA level.
"In collegiate basketball, the typical benchmark for a successful season is achieving at least 20 wins," said Saint Xavier University women's basketball coach Bob Hallberg. "We have had eight seasons as a program and all eight had at least 20 wins, so I think we have had some highly productive seasons. I really hope this is a streak that we can continue to extend in the years ahead." Saint Xavier (20-5 overall/6-1 CCAC) takes a break from its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) slate to take on NCAA Division I foe Chicago State University (Ill.) on Saturday, February 16. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center.
