CHICAGO - Led by 17 points (game-high) and eight rebounds (team-high) by sophomore forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic), No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University had little trouble claiming an 82-52 victory over visiting Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's basketball action Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (20-5 overall, 6-1 CCAC) never trailed in the game and took a 42-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. With the loss by Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) to Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.) earlier tonight, SXU now sits solely in first place in the CCAC standings with a 6-1 mark.
In addition to Hannemann, four other Cougars scored in double figures in Tuesday's home win. Junior forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) scored 13 points and had a team-high four steals for Saint Xavier in her first start of the season, while senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) posted 12 points and game-high five assists. Senior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) and sophomore guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) each chipped in 10 points. The SXU defense racked up 17 steals in the game and scored 33 points off of IIT turnovers. Junior forward Lisa Reed, who finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, led the Scarlet Hawks. Saint Xavier (20-5 overall/6-1 CCAC) takes a break from its conference slate to take on NCAA Division I foe Chicago State University (Ill.) on Saturday, February 16. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center.
