Women's Basketball - Sat, Feb. 9, 2008
Bourbonnais, Ill. - Despite a double-double performance of 17 points and 13 rebounds by senior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange), the No. 11 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team could not overcome 30 turnovers and fell 91-69 to No. 19 Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Saturday afternoon in Bourbonnais, Ill. With the loss, the Cougars (19-5 overall, 5-1 CCAC) are now tied for first place in the CCAC standings with the Tigers (20-4 overall, 5-1 CCAC) with four regular-season conference games remaining. Sophomore guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College) was the only other SXU player to score in double figures Saturday finishing with 15 points in addition to her team-high three steals. The Cougars led briefly in the game taking a 10-7 lead at the 14:42 mark of the first half. However, Olivet used a 20-6 scoring run over the game's next five minutes to build an 11-point lead, 27-16, and never looked back. Early in the second half, SXU was able to cut the deficit to eight points, 44-36, but that was as close as the game would get the rest of the way. The Cougars had trouble shooting from the perimeter Saturday going 0-for-10 from the three-point range in the game. Saint Xavier (19-5 overall/5-1 CCAC) returns home on Tuesday, February 12, to take on CCAC foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
