Men's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 6, 2008
Kansas City, Mo. - Saint Xavier University sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) has been selected the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. Scott had a solid week in a pair of games for the Cougars, who just moved up three spots from No. 24 to No. 21 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll released earlier Wednesday afternoon. It was the first time this season a SXU basketball player has received the national weekly honor.

In the 84-75 win against University of St. Francis (Ill.), Scott put up a game-best 25 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. He shot 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the floor with all of his misses coming from behind the arc (1-of-5). In the thrilling 89-88 road win at Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.), Scott nailed the game-winning three-pointer with seven ticks left. He finished with a season-high 30 points, six rebounds and seven dimes. Scott was a spectacular 12-of-13 from the floor in that game. In both games on the week, SXU had to fight back to capture its victories trailing by at least 16 points in the second half. For the week, Scott shot 21-of-26 overall (.808) and 10-of-14 from the free throw line (10-of-14). His 30-point effort was his fifth straight game over 10 points. SXU moved to 19-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference with its two wins last week. The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 9, with a 3 p.m. road game against CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Bourbonnais, Ill.
