Westmont, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore kicker Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) was named the Special Teams Football Player of the Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette magazine Wednesday following an impressive outing in the Cougars' 38-31 overtime win over No. 4 ranked St. Ambrose University (Iowa) last Saturday.

In a game where every point was essential, Longest played his role perfectly connecting on all five of his extra-point attempts and making a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter of Saturday's win. Longest also booted five kickoffs for a total of 274 yards, including one into the endzone for a touchback.

"It was nice to see Shane kick so well against St. Ambrose Saturday, because he has had a sore leg for the last month," said SXU head football coach Mike Feminis. "Shane was definitely a key factor in the victory and our coaching staff feels that when he is back to 100 percent he is a dangerous weapon for our offense."

Saint Xavier (6-2 overall/3-1 MSFA) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Saturday, October 29, to face MSFA Midwest League rival Trinity International University (3-4 overall/2-2 MSFA). Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
