Joliet, Ill. - Sophomore point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) rallied NAIA No. 24-ranked Saint Xavier University not once, but twice from no less than 16-point second-half deficits to provide the Cougars' with two crucial league wins last week and in so doing claimed Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Division I Player of the Week accolades for the seven-day period ending February 3. Scott helped SXU stay just one game behind conference frontrunner Robert Morris College (Ill.) by leading his team in scoring in victories over University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB).
In the latter affair, an 89-88 victory on February 2, Scott hit a game-winning three-pointer with just seven seconds to play to cap off a season-high 30-point performance. He missed only one shot from the field (12-of-13) that afternoon and shot a torrid .808 (21-of-26) for the week. Added to those numbers, Scott also pulled down six rebounds and registered seven assists against the Titans. Three nights earlier (Jan. 30), he was no less dominant, putting up 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Cougars came from 17 points back with 12:42 to play to defeat St. Francis, 84-75. Combined, Scott averaged 27.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists for the week for Saint Xavier. The honor is the second one for Scott this season. He was also recognized for his play during the week ending November 18, 2007. SXU moved to 19-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference with its two wins during the week. The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 9, with a 3 p.m. road game against CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Bourbonnais, Ill.Click here to go to the CCAC Players of the Week webpage
