CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis is excited about the recent signings of a pair of talented area recruits in quarterback Joe Rizzi from Lansing and defensive back Nick Pecho from Frankfort. Rizzi spent a semester at nearby South Suburban College in South Holland before transferring to SXU for the spring semester, while Pecho is wrapping up his senior year at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort.
Rizzi enjoyed a successful prep career at Thornton Fractional South High School under coach Tom Padjen. In 2005, the Rebels went 10-1 overall and qualified for the IHSA 6A Quarterfinals. Pecho wrapped up an impressive career with the Griffins last fall when the team finished 9-3 overall and qualified for the IHSA 8A Quarterfinals under head coach Rob Zvonar.
"We really liked Joe a year ago out of high school, but we did not have any scholarship money to offer him last year," said Feminis. "He is a big, athletic quarterback who has all the tools to be a good one. With Joe here now and Anthony Kropp (current SXU quarterback from Lincoln-Way East) only being a sophomore, our coaching staff is very excited about the future of our quarterback situation.
"Nick was a two-year starter for a great program at Lincoln-Way East," continued Feminis. "What is nice about Nick is that he has played both cornerback and free safety, so he might have a shot to compete for a nickel position or back-up corner spot right away. He is a great athlete."
