CHICAGO - Sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals to lead No. 24 ranked Saint Xavier University to an 81-65 victory over visiting East-West University (Ill.) in non-conference men's basketball action Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (16-4 overall) pulled away late in the second half holding the Phantoms to just 27 percent shooting from the field (7-for-26) after the halftime break.

Senior guard Alok Aiyar (Hanover Park, Ill./UIC/Bartlett) also played well for SXU posting 14 points, four assists, and three steals, while junior forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) and junior guard Amir Resic (Prijedor, Bosnia/East-West/Mather) each chipped in 13 points toward the winning effort. Gregoriou also finished with six rebounds, four assists and three steals Thursday. Both teams shot well from the field in first half action and Saint Xavier led by just a point, 39-38, at the half. However, the Cougars stepped up their defensive pressure late and pulled away to nab the 16-point victory. SXU recorded 16 steals in the game, which helped lead to 22 turnovers by the Phantoms. Saint Xavier (16-4 overall) opens its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule next week with a big home game against No. 8 ranked Robert Morris College (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday, January 23, at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
