Babson Park, Fla. - Sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) finished with game-highs of 19 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists to lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to an 84-68 victory over Webber International University (Fla.) Friday in Babson Park, Fla. The Cougars (14-4 overall) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half, but a late charge before halftime gave them a one-point lead, 39-38, at the break. SXU never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 18 points.
In addition to Scott, junior guard Amir Resic (Prijedor, Bosnia/East-West/Mather) also had a big game scoring 18 points off the bench. Senior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) also made his presence felt for SXU off the bench by posting 14 points and five rebounds, while senior guard Alok Aiyar (Hanover Park, Ill./UIC/Bartlett) also scored in double figures with 13 points. SXU shot an impressive 58 percent (14-for-24) in second-half action to complete its rally and the defense helped to force 26 Webber International turnovers in the game.
Saint Xavier (14-4 overall) returns from Florida and heads to Hammond, Ind., to take on Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) on Wednesday, January 9. The conference opener for both teams is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
