CHICAGO - Junior guard Amir Resic (Prijedor, Bosnia/East-West/Mather) finished with a team-high 16 points to help Saint Xavier University (Ill.) end 2007 on a good note with a 78-70 road win over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in NAIA men's basketball action Monday in Palos Heights, Ill. The Cougars (12-4 overall) had five players score in double figures in Monday's non-conference victory and played well despite having not played in 10 days due to the holiday break.

Senior guard Alok Aiyar (Hanover Park, Ill./UIC/Bartlett) posted 13 points for SXU, while junior forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) chipped in 12 points in addition to his four rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots. The Cougars also got two solid performances from a couple of its reserves with junior guard Nick Wirth (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) scoring 11 points and senior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) coming off the bench to record 10 points and six rebounds. SXU led a majority of the game and took a 38-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Cougars shot 47 percent (28-for-60) from the field and out-rebounded the Trolls, 36-29, in the game.

Saint Xavier (12-4 overall) heads to Florida this week to play a pair of games beginning Thursday, January 3. The Cougars will play Warner Southern College (Fla.) Thursday at 6 p.m. and then take on Webber International University (Fla.) on Friday, January 4, at 3 p.m.
