CHICAGO - Behind an all-tournament performance from senior guard Alok Aiyar (Hanover Park, Ill./UIC/Bartlett), Saint Xavier University took third place in its own eight-team Midwest Men's Basketball Tournament with an 89-64 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) Friday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Aiyar finished the game with 19 points, five rebounds, six assists, and a career-high nine steals to help lift the Cougars to 11-4 overall on the season. In addition, sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) led all scorers in the game with 28 points for SXU.

The Cougars shot an impressive 51 percent (34-for-67) from the field in Friday's win and played tough defense throughout racking up 16 steals, which helped produce 23 turnovers by the Crimson Wave. Saint Xavier also got solid performances from junior guard Nick Wirth (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere), who finished with four three-pointers and 13 points, and senior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick), who came off the bench to chip in 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Senior center Tom Radtke led Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) with team-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Saint Xavier (11-4 overall) takes a short break for the Christmas holiday before returning to action on Monday, December 31, with a road game against Trinity Christian College (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Palos Heights, Ill.
