Kansas City, Mo. - Senior forward Lissa Coby (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community), senior defender Cassie Rumpf (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), junior defender Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois/Stagg), and freshman defender Nikki Gendron (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Boylan) were all named to the 2007 NAIA All-Region VII Women's Soccer Team Wednesday when the team was announced by the national office. In addition, Coby was named the 2007 NAIA Region VII Women's Soccer Player of the Year, while SXU head women's soccer coach Derek Begich earned Region VII Women's Soccer Coach of the Year honors.
Coby wrapped up a sensational collegiate career this fall recording team-bests of 18 goals, 19 assists, and 55 points. She ends her four-year career at Saint Xavier as the program's all-time leader in goals scored (75), assists (67), and points scored (217). Rumpf, Kendzora, and Gendron anchored a stingy Cougar defense that allowed just 19 goals over 25 games (.760 goal per game), including 10 shutouts. Wagner also helped lead the tough defensive front for SXU posting a team-high 124 saves and 10 shutouts.
Saint Xavier ended its 2007 season with an overall record of 19-4-2 and a berth in the quarterfinals of the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament. The quarterfinals appearance marked the best postseason finish for the Cougars in the 11-year history of the program.
