Kenosha, Wis. - Senior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) finished 131st out of 258 of the NAIA's top runners this past Saturday at the 2007 NAIA National Cross Country Championships at Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. Bugarin finished the 8,000-meter (8K) course with a time of 26:31 and is a three-time national qualifier with appearances in 2006 (91st, 26:25) and 2005 (107th, 26:20). Both of his previous two national appearances were held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. "Steven has had a remarkable cross country career at Saint Xavier University," said SXU men's cross country coach Ed McAllister. "He has been a leader for our team throughout his career and has helped the program gain national recognition since its start in the fall of 2004. He is a special type of athlete and person and he will be missed next season."
Bugarin wraps up his collegiate cross country career as a three-time All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection (2007, 2006, & 2005) and All-Region VII honoree (2007, 2006, & 2005). In 2005, he led Saint Xavier to its first ever Region VII Championship and earned the Cougars an automatic berth in the NAIA National Cross Country Championships in the program's second year of existence.
