Bourbonnais, Ill. - Despite 17 kills apiece by senior middle blocker Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) and junior outside hitter Chelsey Guay (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba), the No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University volleyball team fell to No. 1 seed Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Saturday in the championship match of the 2007 NAIA Region VII Volleyball Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars end their season with a record of 31-14, while the Tigers receive an automatic bid to participate in the 2007 NAIA Volleyball National Championship in Columbia, Mo.

SXU got the match started on the right foot winning game one, 30-26. However, the Cougars struggled to find their offensive rhythm after that dropping the next three games 23-30, 23-30, 26-30 to lose the match. Senior setter Traci Looby (Orland Hills, Ill./Andrew) recorded 57 assists and 13 digs in Saturday's region championship, while senior libero Emily Soto (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Junior College) scooped up a team-best 31 digs. Senior middle blocker Eileen Carls (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) also played well for SXU posting 10 kills and 23 digs.

Saint Xavier had its most successful campaign (31-14 overall) since the 2000 season when the team finished 36-14 overall and earned a berth to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Saturday's match also marked the first time the Cougars have qualified for the NAIA Region VII championship match since 2000.
