CHICAGO - Behind a game-high five three-pointers from sophomore guard Marco Samimy (Chicago, Ill./CICS-Northtown Academy), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team posted 90 points and remained undefeated (5-0 overall) beating College of the Ozarks (Mo.), 90-57, in non-conference action Friday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Samimy scored a team-best 15 points to lead four Cougars who finished in double figures and helped hand the Bobcats their first loss of the season (4-1 overall).
Sophomore point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) posted 12 points in addition to his game-high nine rebounds and four steals for SXU. Senior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) scored 11 points and pulled down eight boards, while junior forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) chipped in 10 points off the bench. Of the 12 Saint Xavier players who saw the floor Friday, 11 scored at least two points in the ballgame. Hot perimeter shooting helped the Cougars take a 42-35 at the half. The team hit eight of its 15 three-point attempts in the first half (53.3 percent) to build its early lead. The Bobcats shot just 26 percent (8-for-31) after the break, which allowed SXU to pull away out-scoring COTO, 48-22, in the second half. The Cougars also won the battle of the boards owning a 44-33 rebounding advantage in the game.
Saint Xavier (5-0 overall) continues its non-conference home stand against Huntington University (Ind.) on Wednesday, November 21. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
