Men's Basketball - Tue, Nov. 13, 2007
CHICAGO - Junior forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) scored a team-high 18 points to help lead the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team to an 84-75 victory over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in its home opener Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (4-0 overall) also got a solid outing from senior center Kevin Lowe (Tinley Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois/Andrew), who finished with 16 points and team-best nine rebounds.
SXU led 44-37 at the half despite committing 11 turnovers in first-half action. The Cougars shot better after halftime hitting 50 percent of its shots (11-for-22), but still had some trouble taking care of the ball, especially late in the game, which allowed the Panthers to creep back into the game in the closing minutes. In addition to Gregoriou and Lowe, two other Saint Xavier players scored in double figures in Tuesday with sophomore guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) posting 14 points and senior point guard Alok Aiyar (Hanover, Ill./UIC/Bartlett) chipping in 12. Scott also finished with a team-high four assists in the game. The Cougars out-rebounded the Panthers, 40-28, in the winning effort. SXU (4-0 overall) continues its home stand on Friday, November 16, with a game against College of the Ozarks (Mo.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
