Kansas City, Mo. - Despite falling four spots to No. 10 in the final regular season NAIA Top 25 Football Poll of the 2007 season, the Saint Xavier University football team got some very exciting news Sunday when it learned it will still get the opportunity to host a first round playoff game at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago on Saturday, November 17. The Cougars (9-2 overall) will face No. 7 St. Ambrose University (Iowa) at 1 p.m. next Saturday, a familiar rival from SXU's days in the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League.

"I could not be happier right now," said Saint Xavier football coach Mike Feminis. "Our chances of hosting a first round playoff game looked pretty dim after yesterday's loss to Saint Francis (Ind.), but things really worked out for us today. Not only do we get to host, but we also get the chance to face a familiar foe from the Midwest League and that should really help our coaches prepare for the big game."

Due to field renovations at Brady Street Stadium, St. Ambrose University was unable to submit a bid to host a postseason game despite being ranked among the top eight in the 16-team field of NAIA playoff qualifiers. The last time SXU played the Fighting Bees at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field was October 22, 2005. The Cougars won in thrilling fashion with a 38-31 overtime victory with SAU sporting the NAIA's No. 4 ranking.
