Johnson City, Tenn. - Freshman John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) represented the Saint Xavier University men's track team at the 2007 NAIA National Indoor Track Championships held on March 8-10 at Johnson City, Tenn. Neisler had previously qualified for the national meet by running a qualifying time in the 800-meter run during the regular season. The top 23 NAIA runners in the 800-meters were represented at this meet. While Neisler failed to qualify for the finals, he posted a fine time of 1:57.60 to finish 17th overall in this outstanding field.
"John knew that he needed to run a PR (personal record) to have a chance of making the finals," stated SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "He went out and challenged a veteran field and was very much in the race throughout. He was caught in the last 70 meters, but still ran a gutsy and outstanding race. A freshman qualifying is uncommon, so I'm confident that John will be able to improve and run nationally throughout his career."
This ends the indoor season for the Cougars and they will take part in the Troll Invite, hosted by Trinity Christian to start off their outdoor season on March 28.Click here for results of the 2007 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships
