Ormond Beach, Fla. - Despite three errors, the Saint Xavier University baseball team was able to hold on to a big lead and picked up an 11-9 victory over Tiffin University (Ohio) in its first game Sunday in Ormond Beach, Fla. However, the Cougars (3-1 overall) could not carry the momentum into its second game of the day falling, 11-8, to Ohio Dominican University (Ohio).

Freshman left fielder Tony Testin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had a good game with the bat against Tiffin going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Freshman shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) was tough as well batting 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Sophomore Rich Kehoe (Palos Heights, Ill./Richards) notched the win on the mound for SXU throwing 7.2 innings and allowing nine hits, five runs (two earned), and five walks to go along with four strikeouts.

In the loss to Ohio Dominican, Saint Xavier scored seven runs in the middle innings of the nine-inning affair to close to within a run, but two late runs by ODU kept the Cougars at bay. Sophomore centerfielder Don Skelly (Oak Lawn, Ill./Marist) went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while freshman third baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) posted two hits and three RBI. Sophomore first baseman Matt Van Mill (Palos Heights, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was also tough for the Cougars Sunday with two hits, a run scored, and two RBI.

Saint Xavier (3-1 overall) will play a Monday doubleheader against Dickinson State University (N.D.). Start time for the first game of the twinbill is 10 a.m. eastern time.
