CHICAGO - Led by senior guard Shawn Monroe (Chicago, Ill./Lindblom) with 14 points, the No. 3 seeded Saint Xavier University men's basketball team won its first round game of the 2007 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament defeating No. 6 seed Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 73-53, on "Senior Night" Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars improve to 19-10 overall this season with the victory, while the Scarlet Hawks end their year with a 4-25 overall mark.

Monroe finished the game with a perfect 4-for-4 clip from beyond the three-point arc in the final home game of his collegiate career. Another big senior performer for SXU Tuesday was guard Ken McCormick (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), who turned in 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists in the winning effort. Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars was junior center Kevin Lowe (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) with 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field. SXU shot 49 percent (24-for-49) from the field in the game. Freshman guard Rob Knapczyk with 14 points led IIT.

Saint Xavier (19-10 overall/5-5 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Thursday, March 1, to take on No. 2 seed Olivet Nazarene University in semi-finals action. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill.
