Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) was recently named the 2007 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Most Valuable Player (MVP) and earned first team All-CCAC recognition as four SXU women's basketball players received spots on the 2007 all-conference squad. Senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) also secured places on the All-CCAC First Team, while senior guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) nabbed a spot on the All-CCAC Second Team. In addition, coach Bob Hallberg finished in a tie with Olivet Nazarene University coach Doug Porter for the CCAC Coach of the Year award.

Jackson has averaged 15.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and a team-leading 5.5 assists per game this season for the No. 3 ranked Cougars. She has started in all 28 games for SXU this season and is shooting 49 percent (165-for-339) from the field on the year. Brown has also been a force for Saint Xavier this season averaging a team-leading 15.7 points per game in addition to team-highs of 103 three-pointers made and 54 percent (103-for-191) long-range shooting clip. She is one of the NAIA's top three-point shooting threats ranked in the top three nationally in two different three-point statistical categories.

Down in the post, Heine has been an aggressive force for Saint Xavier this year averaging 11.3 points and team-high 6.2 rebounds a game. She is also the team leader in blocks per game averaging 0.9 blocks a contest. Engleman has been a solid contributor to the Cougars all season, especially on the defensive end. Averaging a team-best 2.4 steals per game, Engleman has used her quickness to also help create offense for the team averaging 4.3 assists in addition to her 6.2 points per game average. Saint Xavier (26-2 overall/11-1 CCAC) earned a No.1 seed and first round bye for this week's CCAC Tournament. The Cougars will host a second round game in the tourney on Thursday, March 1. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago and the opponent has yet to be determined.
