Olathe, Kan. - Saint Xavier University junior kicker Shane Longest (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Special Teams Player of the Week when the national office released the honor Tuesday. Longest was instrumental in the then No. 8 ranked Cougars' 13-10 upset road victory over No. 5 McKendree College (Ill.) last Saturday in both team's Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) opener.

Longest converted both his field goal attempts (37 yards and 47 yards) and an extra point to help lead SXU to its second win of the 2006 season. He made what proved to be the game-winning 47-yard field goal with 5:48 left in regulation. Longest also had two of his four kickoffs downed for touchbacks in the game.

No. 5 ranked Saint Xavier (2-0 overall, 1-0 MSFA) returns home to face Malone College (Ohio) on Saturday, September 16, in a MSFA crossover game at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
