Men's Track & Field - Mon, Feb. 19, 2007
CHICAGO - On Saturday, February 16, the Saint Xavier University men's track team took part in the Chicagoland Track Championships hosted by the University of Chicago. The Cougars placed in three events and had excellent performances in these and a number of others events on the day. The highlight of the SXU performances came in the 800 meters as freshman John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) finished third in a time of 1:57.33. This performance made Neisler the first Cougar to qualify for the 2007 NAIA Indoor Track National Championships next month in Johnston City, Tenn.
Freshman Eli Hoffman (Mount Morris, Ill./Oregon) also ran a solid time of 2:01.40 in the same event placing 11th overall. Junior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) placed second overall in the 5000 meters in a time of 15:40 and eighth in the 3000 meters in 9:02 just missing the qualifying times of 15:32 and 8:58. Sophomore Ronald Lavaire (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville) ran 4:37 in the mile to place him 10th overall in that event.
"John ran a very solid time and I feel that he is just starting to come into his own," said Saint Xavier head men's track coach Ed McAllister. "Steven is very close to qualifying and Eli and Ronald improve every weekend. This team is starting to show real progress."
The Cougars wrap up their indoor season with a "Last Chance" Meet this Friday (February 23) at University of Chicago.
