CHICAGO - Nikki Gendron, a senior defender from Rockford Boylan High School in Rockford, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. She was coached by Dave Bachta during her prep career for the Lady Titans of Rockford Boylan.
Gendron is the daughter of Dennis and Cori Gendron of Rockford. She plans to pursue a degree in education next year at Saint Xavier University. Last season, Saint Xavier finished with an overall record of 19-4-0 (a new school record) and a No. 8 national ranking in the NAIA. The Cougars also qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in the program's 10-year history.
"I am thrilled to have Nikki as part of the women's soccer program," said Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach Derek Begich. "She will make an immediate impact for us in the back and continue our defensive success after allowing only 14 goals over 23 games last season. We return three of our four starters on defense next fall and Nikki's great speed will help us fill the void in the back from the graduation of senior co-captain Kate Bingham."
