CHICAGO - Behind a 48-point first half by Olivet Nazarene University, Saint Xavier University fell behind earlier and could not recover falling 82-63 to the visiting Tigers in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's basketball action Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars had no answer for freshman guard Ryan Paxson, who led ONU with a game-high 20 points behind six three-pointers. SXU falls to 16-8 overall and 3-3 in the CCAC with the loss, while the Tigers improve to 15-8 and 5-1 in conference play.
Saint Xavier had two players score in double figures with sophomore forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice) leading the way with 13 points. Junior forward Dan Bolger (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick) almost recorded a double-double Saturday finishing with 12 points and team-high eight rebounds. Despite shooting 57 percent (13-for-23) in the second half, the Cougars could not overcome a 21-point halftime deficit, 48-27. Rebounding was also a problem Saturday for SXU with the Tigers winning the battle of the boards, 36-21. Junior center Phil French also had a solid outing for ONU with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the floor.
Saint Xavier (16-8 overall/3-3 CCAC) returns to action on Wednesday, February 7, with a conference road game against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The start time for the game is 7 p.m.
