CHICAGO - Behind a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds from sophomore forward Adam Gregoriou (Burbank, Ill./Brother Rice), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team picked up a big 87-62 win over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) Wednesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (16-7 overall/3-2 CCAC) outscored the Titans, 48-31, in the second half to earn the conference victory. IUSB falls to 9-14 overall and 2-3 in the CCAC standings with the road loss.
Freshman guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) also had a good night on the floor finishing with 16 points and game-high eight rebounds, while junior center Kevin Lowe (Tinley Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois University) chipped in 12 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Shawn Monroe (Chicago, Ill./Lindblom) came off the bench to score 10 points for SXU. The Cougars used its size to build the big lead scoring 40 points in the paint and out-rebounding IUSB, 39-18, in Wednesday's victory. SXU shot 53 percent from the field (32-for-61).
Saint Xavier (16-7 overall/3-2 CCAC) meets up with CCAC rival Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on Saturday, February 3, at the Shannon Center. The start time for the game is 3 p.m.
