Women's Basketball - Wed, Jan. 31, 2007
CHICAGO - Senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week Wednesday for her individual efforts in leading No. 4 ranked Saint Xavier University to two big conference wins last week. The Cougars (20-2 overall/5-1 CCAC) defeated Robert Morris College (Ill.), 99-70, on the road last Tuesday and then beat rival University of St. Francis (Ill.), 102-70, at home on Saturday.
Brown broke two school records in last Tuesday's victory scoring 35 points and draining nine three-pointers to set two new SXU single-game marks. She then followed that performance with a 20-point outing in Saturday's win over USF. On the week, Brown averaged 27.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals over the week's two-game stretch. She also was an outstanding 13-for-22 (59 percent) from the three-point arc.
Saint Xavier (20-2 overall/5-1 CCAC) will have revenge on its mind on Saturday, February 3, hosting CCAC rival Olivet Nazarene University, the only NAIA team to defeat the Cougars this season. The Saturday game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Shannon Center.
