CHICAGO - Led by 23 points by junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange), the No. 4 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team had five players score in double figures in a 102-70 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) at the Shannon Center Saturday in Chicago. The Cougars improve to 19-2 overall and 4-1 in CCAC play with the win, while the Fighting Saints fall to 12-11 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Just days after setting two single-game records, scoring (35) and three-pointers made (9) for SXU, senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) put up 20 points Saturday on 7-for-10 shooting from the field. Senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) posted 14 points in the winning effort, while freshman guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) and freshman forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) both came off the bench to score 13 and 10 points, respectively. Heine led the Cougars on the glass with nine rebounds, while Jackson finished with a game-high eight assists.
SXU led 48-28 at the half behind hot three-point shooting. Saint Xavier shot 6-for-11 from beyond the arc in the first half. In the second half, the Cougar offense stayed hot shooting 14-for-25 from the field (56 percent) and going a perfect 20-for-20 from the free-throw line. SXU finished 30-for-32 (94 percent) from the charity stripe in the ballgame.
Saint Xavier (19-2 overall/4-1 CCAC) stays at home to face CCAC foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) on Tuesday, January 30. The game starts at 7 p.m.
