Whiting, Ind. - Led by 13 points, three assists, and three steals from senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), No. 3 ranked Saint Xavier University picked up an 82-42 victory over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's basketball action Tuesday night in Whiting, Ind. The Cougars (17-2 overall/2-1 CCAC) led 44-15 at the half and never relinquished the big lead throughout the second half.
Senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) chipped in 11 points for SXU in the win, while junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) and sophomore forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) each contributed 10 points. Junior center Jennifer Stinich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) led the Cougars on the glass with eight rebounds. The defense was key to the SXU victory Tuesday holding the Peregrines to just 29 percent shooting (14-for-48) and helping force 25 turnovers. The Cougars shot 48 percent (33-for-69) from the field in the game.
Saint Xavier (17-2 overall/2-1 CCAC) continues play on Tuesday, January 23, with a CCAC match-up against Robert Morris College (Ill.). The road game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at the Gentile Center in Chicago.
