CHICAGO - Courtney Murphy, a senior first baseman at Oak Forest High School in Oak Forest, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar softball program. She will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2007 and will compete for playing time at first base during the 2008 season. Murphy joins Brittany Hannigan (Stagg), Lisa Gryczewski (Lincoln-Way East), Amy Kennedy (Pontiac), Rachel Krabbe (Beecher), and Megan Paradzinski (Munster) as the other 2007 recruits to sign with SXU softball.

Murphy is the daughter of Mike and Marjie Murphy of Oak Forest. She is currently coached by Paige Shemoski at Oak Forest High School. Murphy is looking to pursue a degree in nursing next year at Saint Xavier University.

"Courtney is a strong hitter and a solid defensive first baseman," said Saint Xavier University head softball coach Myra Minuskin. "Her maturity, intensity, and leadership make her a perfect fit for our program."
