CHICAGO - Senior guards Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) combined for 37 points as the No. 9 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team defeated Culver-Stockton College (Mo.), 85-63, in the semifinals of the 2006 SXU Christmas Tip-off Tournament Thursday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (14-1 overall) are riding a 10-game win streak and have a chance to finish the month of December on a perfect note (10-0) if they can defeat St. Ambrose University (Iowa) in Friday's championship game, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center.

Brown led SXU with 19 points, including a game-high five three-pointers. Jackson finished with 18 points and shot a blistering 9-for-11 from the field, while also dishing out a team-high eight assists. Junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange) also played well for Saint Xavier with 15 points and a game-high four steals. Junior forward Tara Breshock (Lansing, Ill./TF-South) was tough on the boards for the Cougars pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with her six points. The SXU defense helped force 25 Culver-Stockton turnovers in the game, while the Cougars took care of the ball committing just seven miscues. Junior center Kristin Allen led Culver-Stockton with a game-high 20 points.

Saint Xavier (14-1 overall) advances to the championship game of the 2006 SXU Christmas Tipoff Tournament and will face St. Ambrose on Friday, December 29. Game time for the championship is set for 7 p.m.
