Bourbonnais, Ill. - Junior guard Sarah Wilson (Bloomington Ind./ Bloomington South) nailed seven three-pointers Friday night to help No. 10 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team get by Missouri Baptist University (7-5), 90-48, in the first game of the CCAC Challenge hosted by Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars (8-1 overall) led at half, 40-25, and never looked back outscoring MBU, 50-23, after the break.
Four SXU players led the charge with double digits. Wilson led with a game-high 21 points, while senior guards Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) had 14 points, Candis Jackson (Chicago Ill./Whitney Young) scored 11 points, and Dani Engleman (Oak Park Ill./Oak Park-River Forrest) chipped in 10 points. Freshman forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen Ill./ Providence Catholic), who went 5-for-5 at the free throw line, led the Cougars defensively with two blocks and three steals. Saint Xavier led in most categories, including points in the paint (26) and fast break points (11). Freshman guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso Ind./Morgan Township) cleared the glass with a game-high nine rebounds. Jackson led the way with nine assists.
SXU will now face Taylor University (Ind.) in day two of the CCAC Challenge Saturday at 1 p.m. at McHie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill.
