Women's Basketball - Wed, Dec. 6, 2006
Olathe, Kan. - With big wins over previous No. 1 Union University (Tenn.) and No. 12 ranked Point Loma Nazarene University (Calif.) to its credit already this season, the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team earned its highest national ranking ever Wednesday garnering the No. 10 spot in the latest NAIA National Ratings. Prior to Wednesday's rating, the Cougars had never been higher than No. 15 nationally (December 11, 2003) when they started the 2003-04 campaign with a 9-1 overall record.

"You have to beat the best to ever have a chance of being ranked among the best," said SXU women's basketball coach Bob Hallberg. "Fortunately, our team has played well in the big games this season and we have taken advantage of the opportunities to knock off two perennial powers in NAIA women's basketball. I could not be happier with how our women have stepped up to the challenge."

Saint Xavier (7-1 overall) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., next weekend to take part in the two-day Olivet Nazarene University Classic. The Cougars open with 5:30 p.m. game against Missouri Baptist University (Mo.) on Friday, December 8, and then wrap up the event with a 1 p.m. contest against Taylor University (Ind.) on Saturday, December 9.
