CHICAGO - Five players scored in double figures to help lift the No. 17 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team to a big 87-47 non-conference victory over NCAA Division III Central College (Iowa) Friday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) led the Cougars with 19 points and hit five of her eight three-point attempts as the team improved its overall record to 6-1.
Senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange), and freshman forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) each scored 14 points in the winning effort. Heine was also tough on the boards with seven rebounds, while Jackson finished the ballgame with a game-high seven assists. Freshman guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) also had a nice outing with 12 points and six rebounds for the Cougars. SXU played well at both ends of the court out-rebounding the Dutch, 50-34, and helped force 34 Central College turnovers.
Saint Xavier (6-1 overall) continues its home stand by hosting the two-time defending national champions, Union University (Tenn.), on Saturday, December 2, at the Shannon Center. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
