Milwaukee, Wisc. - Two first-half goals by sophomore midfielder Aleksandra Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Bryan) helped propel the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to an 8-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Cardinal Stritch University (Wisc.) Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisc. With the win, the Cougars set a new all-time win streak mark with its ninth consecutive victory improving to 13-2-1 overall and finishing in a first-place tie in the CCAC regular season standings with a 8-1 mark.
Sudar recorded the first goal of the game in just the fourth minute of play on an unassisted play to give SXU an early 1-0 advantage. With under a minute to play before halftime, Sudar struck again on another unassisted shot to put the Cougars ahead, 2-0, at the half. In the second half, the Saint Xavier offense exploded for six unanswered goals to secure the win.
In the 60th minute, freshman midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley) got the scoring started when she found the back of the net off assists from sophomore forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) and junior midfielder Danielle Scartozzi (Crete, Ill./Calumet College). Just two minutes later, junior defender Kate Bingham (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X Catholic) got into the scoring mix with a goal off another Coby assist.
Scartozzi picked up a goal of her own in the 79th minute of play off assists from sophomore midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Coby to put SXU up, 6-0. Goals by freshman midfielder Breanna Cashel (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X) and LoPresti, respectively, in the final five minutes of the game completed the 8-0 shutout victory. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) captured her ninth shutout of the season and finished Saturday's game with four saves.
Saint Xavier (13-2-1 overall/8-1 CCAC) will finish up its regular season with a non-conference road game against McKendree College (Ill.) on Tuesday, October 18. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
