Joliet, Ill. - Behind a goal and an assist from junior forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community), the No. 15 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 road victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Saturday in Joliet, Ill. The win improves SXU's overall record to 13-3 and moves the team into a tie for first place with Trinity International (Ill.) and Robert Morris (Ill.) in the league standings with a 6-2 mark.
The Cougars posted three goals in the first half with junior midfielder Natalie Liakopoulos (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) getting things started in the game's 29th minute off an assist from freshman defender Amy Turner (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X Catholic). Coby scored the next goal for SXU with nine minutes remaining in the first half on an unassisted breakaway. With just over three-and-a-half minutes left to play before halftime, junior midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Bryan) scored the final goal of the first half off an assist from Coby.
In second half action, the Saint Xavier offense continued to roll with senior forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic) getting in on the scoring with a goal in the 57th minute of play on an assist from sophomore midfielder Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont). A goal by sophomore midfielder Breanna Cashel (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X) with a minute to play in regulation completed the scoring for the Cougars with junior midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) providing the assist on the final goal. Freshman Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois) got the starting nod in goal for SXU recording one save en route to her fifth shutout this season.
Saint Xavier (13-3 overall/6-2 CCAC) wraps up its regular season slate on Wednesday, October 18, with a 1 p.m. conference game against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
