CHICAGO - Led by game-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds by junior forward Jackie Heine (Hampshire, Ill./Hannibal-LaGrange), No. 3 Saint Xavier University picked up a convincing 79-56 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory against Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) in NAIA women's basketball action Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. In addition to Heine's big game, senior guard Candis Jackson (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) set a new SXU single-season record for assists recording her 144th dish of the season. The previous record was 143 assists set by Nina Solava during the 2001-02 season.
Jackson finished the game with 14 points to go along with her four assists. Senior guard Dani Engleman (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) and freshman guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) each chipped in 11 points for the Cougars, while senior guard Angie Brown (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) was the final Saint Xavier player to score in double figures with 10 points. SXU took an early lead and built a 54-22 halftime advantage behind 59 percent (20-for-34) shooting from the field in the first half. The Cougars also crashed the boards out-rebounding the Peregrines, 44-29, in the ballgame.
Saint Xavier (23-2 overall/8-1 CCAC) takes a break from its conference slate to host No. 18 ranked Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Tuesday, February 13. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
