CHICAGO - Behind two first-half goals by sophomore midfielder Aleks Sudar (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Bryan), the No. 12 ranked and No. 1 seeded Saint Xavier University women's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over No. 8 seed Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Friday in the quarterfinals of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Soccer Tournament at SXU Stadium in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-3-1 overall and advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the No. 4 seed Trinity Christian College/No. 5 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.) game.
Sudar scored her first goal exactly eight minutes into play when senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) found her open on a cross to pick up the assist. Sudar tallied her second goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half on an assist from sophomore midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South). Senior Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) recorded her 10th shutout of the season and finished with one save for SXU. The Cougars outshot the Scarlet Hawks, 26-4, in Friday's victory. No. 12 Saint Xavier (14-3-1 overall/8-1 CCAC) will host a CCAC semifinals game against No. 4 seeded Trinity Christian on Wednesday, October 26, at SXU Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
